The Best Branded Product Labels

Ian Renton  | 07/07/2015 | Label Design Tips,Product Labels

What makes some product labels better than others? Well, I did a Google search and came up with these images for the best branded product labels. Some brands are easily recognisable while other brands would stand out on a supermarket shelve or at a market because they are simple and easy to read. Other labels show off a benefit which compel an interested to consumer to look more closely at that product.

A successful product label has the following purposes.

a) Be instantly recognisable to boost repeat sales. Make it easy for your customers to recognise your brand. b) Entice new customers to your brand. The way to do this is to have a compelling benefit that will draw potential customers to your product. You will need the right font, point size, colours and words to be able to do this. Hence, you need the combined skills of graphic designers and marketers. c) Educate customers and prospects. OK, so you have convinced a customer to look at your product label with a compelling headline. That is great but it does not guarantee a sale. Other details such as healthy ingredients or future benefits or protection from the sun may be needed to get a sale. Of course, a product label is more effective if other marketing for the product is done.

let's go back to these images on Google. Perhaps one of the most powerful brands in the world is Coca Cola. Its distinctive cursive font and red and white colours make it as noticeable as anything and the consistency of the brand makes for a compelling product label. OK, not all of us have the marketing clout of Coca Cola but it should not deter you from designing the very best product labels you possibly can. You just need to follow five simple rules to make your product labels stand out. They are:

1. Be clear and simple.

2. Be original.

3. Be honest.

4. Allow for product variations.

5. Be benefit driven.

So, let's go back to the best branded product labels according to Google. Two beer labels stood out because of the benefit which stated, 100% Home Brewed. The printing was bold and black on a white background and articulated why that beer is different and from others.

This benefit may not appeal to everyone but it will appeal to a section of the market and that is the skill in product labelling. Appeal to your target market. To be honest, I found it hard to find another really good product label. They are few and far between and they do not adhere to the five rules above. This one I liked. It was a clear label, often an excellent choice on a clear bottle or container. It makes it easy to see the contents of the bottle.

The headline was Antibacterial hand soap. There was a one word benefit. The product was also clear. A second label appeared on the back with smaller text. This included ingredients and other important information. If you want product labels or any other label printing, you can contact Renton's Labels.
